![]() ![]() The simplest solution for you is to get a running windows system, install imaging software there and then use its user interface to partition and format a bootable USB drive. Getting Norton Ghost running on Windows PE/BartPE is an overkill too. See for a list of extra advantages provided by imaging software vs dd blockwise copying. But for now, I can access the internet perfectly.I discourage dd-style imaging because you copy both allocated and unallocated space and you won't be able to migrate say NTFS from a 40GB drive to a 400GB drive. I did a Malwarebytes scan (see screenshot) and there were 3 viruses (apparently already present on the install cd). I'm curious what other parts of this Windows might not operate correctly. When I tried to access System Restore, I got an error message saying some file was missing. After the operating system was totally installed, I noticed, by chance, that the System Restore did not work. However, I suppose the System Properties window might look perfectly normal, and still be from a modified Ghost cd. One clue that would indicate this has been done is looking at the System Properties window (see screenshot with Chinese and Ghost words). The technician said that the one Ghost cd (obviously specially modified) would install Windows on any computer. ![]() After 5 or so minutes, Ghost was finished, then a special driver window appeared, automatically installing drivers. I was curious why Ghost would be involved in this situation. Shortly after the technician put in a windows cd, I noticed the Ghost interface came up. ![]() I didn't look forward to the hour or so plus reboots involved to reinstall Windows. The technician said reinstalling the operating system would solve the problem. Today I had a computer that wouldn't access the internet very well. I remember being in China 10 years ago, and I couldn't figure out why every other disk in a software shop said "Ghost" on it. I hate to be ignorant of what half the world's population is doing. This has been going on for at least 15 years, and until today, I was totally ignorant of this practice. ![]()
